Thomas Yao

MBA

Director of Investments

Thomas grew up toggling between the courtroom and the lab—first drawn to the art of building arguments like a lawyer, then to the discovery and rigor of chemistry. The common thread was curiosity. He found his way to investing early, sitting beside his grandfather—social worker by day, investor by night—reading financials and teasing out theses while most kids were at practice. That habit became a vocation: separating signals from noise and turning data into decisions for real families.

He has worked across the investment spectrum—broker-dealer (Goldman Sachs), a mutual fund (TCW), a hedge fund (Gowdy Park Capital), a family office (DS Advisors)—before joining RDM Financial Group. He studied chemistry (and math) at Georgetown, published research on hydrogen fuel cells, and later earned his MBA at the University of Chicago Booth with concentrations in analytic finance, economics, accounting, and international business. The lab’s precision never left; it simply moved to markets.

If he were not an advisor, he would still be researching and investing—title or no title. His guiding ideas are simple: step back, build a mosaic of perspectives, and let evidence lead. Learning something new can make his day instantly better. So can time with his wife, Manon (a French native), their Pomeranian, Muffin, and visits with family in France—where life has a way of reminding you to stop and smell the roses.

Ask him what wealth means and he will say contentment across life’s dimensions while continuing to learn and grow. Retirement, someday, looks a lot like today—with more family, more reading, and the same lifelong commitment to inquiry.
