Fed Stays Guarded

The Federal Reserve kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.5%–3.75%, but the decision revealed growing internal concern over persistent inflation, with three policymakers dissenting in favor of a rate hike—the most dissents on a hold decision in a decade. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh emphasized that the central bank remains fully committed to restoring inflation to its 2% target and “will not hesitate” to tighten policy if conditions warrant, while intentionally offering little forward guidance on future moves. With inflation risks tied to rising energy prices, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, and continued economic resilience, markets are increasingly focused on whether incoming data could tip the Fed toward a rate increase as soon as September.1

Drone Delivery Takes Flight

DoorDash is accelerating its push into autonomous logistics with the launch of DoorDash Air, an in-house drone delivery program enabled by newly secured FAA certification for commercial drone operations. Developed by DoorDash Labs, the initiative complements the company’s existing network of human couriers, sidewalk robots, and autonomous delivery partners while positioning DoorDash alongside rivals including Amazon’s Prime Air, Alphabet’s Wing, and Zipline in the emerging drone delivery market. The move underscores the growing race to reduce delivery costs, improve fulfillment speed, and build more scalable last-mile logistics networks as automation becomes a strategic priority across the on-demand delivery industry.2

AI for Everyone

Mark Zuckerberg argues that the future of AI should be broadly distributed rather than controlled by a handful of institutions, contending that widespread access to “superintelligence” could unlock innovation, economic growth, and new entrepreneurial opportunities. He believes advanced AI tools will make it easier for individuals to start and scale businesses without significant capital, potentially shifting the economy toward more small-business creation rather than greater corporate concentration. While acknowledging concerns about automation, Zuckerberg maintains that empowering people with AI will ultimately create more jobs and expand human productivity, positioning superintelligence as a catalyst for innovation rather than displacement.3

Food Safety Fallout

The nationwide cyclospora outbreak is renewing scrutiny of consolidation across the food supply chain, with experts arguing that centralized farming, processing, and distribution networks can amplify the reach of a single contamination event. Companies such as Taylor Farms and major distributors like Sysco and US Foods now handle a larger share of fresh produce, increasing efficiency but also raising the potential for outbreaks to spread across multiple states when failures occur. While some experts contend that larger operators often have stronger food safety controls and traceability systems, the outbreak underscores how consolidation can magnify the consequences—and cost—of contamination incidents, placing food system resilience and oversight back in the spotlight.4

Cold Chain Rush

The explosive growth of GLP-1 weight-loss and diabetes medications is fueling a major expansion in healthcare logistics, as companies race to build temperature-controlled storage and transportation networks capable of handling sensitive pharmaceuticals. Industry leaders including UPS, FedEx, DHL, and C.H. Robinson are investing billions into cold-chain infrastructure, AI-driven monitoring systems, and specialized healthcare services to capitalize on one of logistics’ fastest-growing markets. As biologic therapies become more prevalent, reliable cold storage and end-to-end supply chain visibility are emerging as critical competitive advantages, transforming healthcare logistics into a key growth engine for the transportation sector.5

Merger Hits Pause

Paramount Skydance has agreed to delay its planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery until a court resolves an antitrust lawsuit or until June 2027, pushing the closing timeline well beyond its original September target. The delay increases the cost of the transaction through quarterly “ticking fees” owed to WBD shareholders and could add roughly $1.7 billion to the deal price if extended to the deadline. Despite receiving approval from U.S. federal and European regulators, the $110 billion media merger now faces a high-stakes legal battle with state attorneys general concerned about competition and potential industry job losses.6
